The Egypt Country Report

Summary of The Report Egypt 2011

The Report Egypt 2011 is considered as one of the most comprehensive economic, political, social and business review of Egypt for the time being. It is a part of the renowned Emerging Market series of annual economic information and political intelligence that covers South East Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East. This publication is produced by the Oxford Business Group in association with the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.

The over 200 page research is written by a team of international analysts based on the ground for six months, and the result of hundreds of public and private sector interviews making them unrivalled in the Egyptian market. The Report Egypt 2011 is basically the most extensive independent, unbiased and accurate intelligence available research covering all the Egyptian sectors. It is supported by charts, graphs and key economic data to highlight trends allowing readers a unique insight into the country.

The Report, which was edited after the revolution, provides a comprehensive overview of the country’s undergoing extensive changes to adapt to the modern business world and to place it at the forefront of international commerce and trade. It explains the domestic and foreign political scene, macroeconomic policy and sectoral developments and includes unique statistical forecasting.

In addition to comprehensive overviews of Egypt's political and macroeconomic situation, the report reviews developments and trends in all the major sectors, including banking, capital markets, insurance, IT and telecoms, industry, energy, real estate and construction, transport, health and education, tourism and agriculture, followed by a valuable legal and accounting section. By the end of the report there is The Guide, which provides a bright look at Egypt's regions and culture, with advice and guidance to the best hotels and restaurants, as well as useful business, government and emergency telephone numbers, links and addresses.

The protests that emerged on January 25, 2011 that brought an end to three decades of Hosni Mubarak’s presidency were a direct challenge to the staid nature of Egyptian politics. Current debates on constitutional reform, popular participation and freedom of expression will set the tone for the future of the country’s political environment.

However, high rates of unemployment and poverty among the country’s population of 79.8 million, allied to growing anger at the level of corruption, were just as powerful a driver for the largely peaceful revolution as a desire for a functioning democracy. Attempts to indentify and prosecute cases of alleged high-level corruption began within days of Mubarak resignation. Joblessness and the 30m-plus people living on less than $2 a day will continue to be stubborn challenges, regardless of who comes to power following the parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for June and July 2011.

Egypt 2011 will be sold to corporate subscribers in Europe, North America and the Middle East. Produced for international financial institutions, multinational companies and foreign investors, this book is a unique platform with a consistent track record in bringing in foreign investment.
