A FINAL DISPATCH
This issue marks the end of my tenure as editor-in-chief of Business Monthly magazine. It’s been a long journey, but quite frankly it’s hard to fathom how 45 issues went by so fast. The trials and tribulations of putting out a high-quality business journal month after month are now just a blur – but one that’s left me with a strong desire to take a long break before deciding what’s next.
It’s often tempting for departing editors to make grand declarations about the legacy they leave behind, but I will try to resist. Instead, I would like to draw your attention to the team of talented individuals responsible for putting out this monthly publication. It has been an honor to work with them, and I am proud of what we achieved – last month putting out the biggest issue of Business Monthly ever, a whopping 136 pages.
But more important than page count is quality. And we’ve never cut corners – chasing contacts to verify statements, pulling all-nighters to edit and proof articles, and pouring through voluminous reports to ensure our figures are correct. But as much as we pride ourselves on the accuracy of our news, the text on the page is only half the story. It’s easy to overlook the people working quietly behind the scenes – airbrushing hot spots off a minister’s photo, chasing down late ads or camping out overnight at the print shop to inspect page proofs. And then there’s the administrative side, without which our operation would quickly dissolve into chaos.
Four years of running a business magazine has left me with positive experiences and provided many valuable lessons. As I leave Business Monthly, and AmCham Egypt, I carry with me fond memories of the place, and the people. I wish them all the best.
